UNBELIEVABLE GRAVITY DEFYING POTATO

Can you balance a potato upward on the rim of a tall glass?
It sounds impossible, but proves to be quite simple when you use little science and make use of two handy tools.

YOU WILL NEED:
A tall drinking glass
A small raw potato
Two table forks of identical size and weight

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Push the prongs of a fork upward in one side of the potato.
2.  Then do the same with the second fork on the other side, so the handles extend downward at about the same angle.
3.  Rest the lower end of the potato on your fingers to see if you can balance it; if not, change the position of whichever fork will help.
4.  Once it is satisfactory, place the lower end on the glass rim and balance the potato there, with the forks hanging below.

Your potato will balance on the thin rim of the glass, defying gravity!



SCIENCE BEHIND:
Center of Gravity plays a critical role in balancing objects. You make use of this knowledge to play with the center of gravity of potato. The hanging handles of the forks serve as counterbalances, by bringing the center of gravity far below the bottom of the potato. Thus, the potato, though too unstable to be balanced by itself, becomes a link between the prongs of the counter balanced forks. Now it can be readily balanced.
People in circus use the similar science to balance themselves on a thin rope.
